+ About this map
Humboldt Peak rises to 14,070 feet in Colorado’s Sangre de Cristo Range, the easiest summit of the Crestone group and the one with the best view of the others. From its top the Crestone Needle and Crestone Peak stand directly across the South Colony Lakes basin, which is why so many climbers make it their first stop in the range. The standard route follows the long west ridge above the lakes.
This map traces a gentler mountain set beside rugged neighbours. The contour lines on Humboldt are broad and rounded, especially along the west ridge, while the lake basin to the west shows as a scooped hollow. The tighter bands on the sheet belong to the surrounding Crestone terrain, which climbs above 14,000 feet in the corner. The map runs from about 10,600 feet to just under 14,200 feet.
