+ About this map
Sugarbush spans two mountains in Vermont’s Mad River Valley: Lincoln Peak, home to the classic steeps of Castlerock, and Mount Ellen, whose summit is among the highest lift-served points in the state. Together they hold 111 trails ranging from long cruisers to narrow, old-school New England lines and some of the best natural glade skiing in the East.
Founded in 1958, Sugarbush earned the nickname “Mascara Mountain” in its early jet-set days, but its modern identity is closer to that of its funky neighbor Mad River Glen: a skiers’ mountain with real terrain, natural snow tree runs, and a devoted following among serious eastern skiers. The contour map shows both peaks along the main spine of the Green Mountains, with the Mad River Valley below.
