+ About this map
Mount Blue Sky rises to 14,271 feet on Colorado’s Front Range, the fourteener closest to Denver and the terminus of the highest paved road in North America. It was known as Mount Evans until 2023, when the name was changed in recognition of the Arapaho and Cheyenne peoples. Summit Lake sits in the cirque below the north face, and the jagged Sawtooth ridge connects it to Mount Bierstadt.
This map shows the contrast between the road side and the wild side. The contour lines lie in wide, gentle bands across the high tundra plateau on the south and west, then compress sharply on the north face where the mountain drops into the Summit Lake cirque and the Chicago Lakes basin. The whole sheet sits above about 11,750 feet, so every line on it is alpine terrain, running up to the 14,271-foot summit.
