+ About this map
Wilson Peak rises to 14,023 feet in the San Miguel Mountains of southwest Colorado, the summit that faces Telluride most directly and the one most people recognize without knowing its name, since it is the mountain on the Coors label. It is the lowest of the three Wilson group fourteeners but the most visible, standing at the north end of the group above Silver Pick Basin, with Mount Wilson and El Diente rising behind it.
This map traces the peak and the higher ground behind it. Wilson Peak’s summit sits in the northern half of the frame with Silver Pick Basin cut into its northwest side, and the ridge runs south past the Rock of Ages saddle toward Mount Wilson, whose summit is the highest point in the frame. The contour lines are tight on nearly every face, with the steepest bands on the north side above the Big Bear Creek drainage. Within this frame the terrain covers about 4,000 feet.
